Top Tips for Scented and Soulful Home Decor Updates this Summer

The sun has certainly got his hat on, as we enjoy a fantastic sunny start to summer! A change of season feels like a time for a reset and I personally love an excuse for a home decor update with a few brighter colours, plants, flowers and of course seasonal scents!
As you know I love vintage, retro pieces for their homely, nostalgic feel, and these can be a great way to update your home in a low cost way. You can find some unique pieces by rummaging around your local charity shops or car boot sales this summer.
Your home fragrance is the finishing touch to the look and feel of your space. Combine your home decor with lighter, brighter scents with floral, fruity or green notes to give you home a fresh, vibrant summer feel. Or choose a marine scent for those relaxing, coastal vibes.

I have picked up so many interesting glass and ceramic vintage vases over the years, at a fraction of the price of buying something new. Don't be restricted by intended use though, vintage tea pots or jugs - as you can see here - also look great with a few flowers in. As you can see here, I'm using a reed diffuser in our new, perfect for summer scent Sea + Sandalwood. Reed diffusers perform best in an ambient temperature and with a lovely breeze coming through our open windows at this time of year, you'll enjoy the scent even more!
A coffee table, side table or shelf is the perfect place to play about with displaying items to add character to your home. One of my favourite past times, creating little nooks - hence the name! You will have noticed from my product photography I love a vintage book. Particular favourites are these Observer books as well as the vintage Penguin titles. The colourful covers brighten a display but books are great to add interest and height to your other pieces. The names of the books might link to the interests of your family, or link to the look you want to achieve. Using house plants adds to the bright, summery feel, adding a candle gives a homely look to the space and creates the ambience when lit. I'm burning our July Scent of the Month fragrance Soft Leather + Plum here, the blend of fruits, florals on a base of earthly leather is just perfect for a summers evening.
You can also spot in the above pic as well as this one, I have used a vintage saucer to add a pretty floral pattern to the table, plus these make great tealight holders or as a display for your wax melt sachet :) Often with vintage finds they are not a complete set, 3 cups and 4 saucers etc! A perfect use for the lonely saucer. Often these plates have pretty florals or bright prints, making them perfect to display in Summer.
Finding a brightly coloured piece like this Norwegian coffee pot is a joy, adding a vibrant update to these shelves. One of the things I love about using retro pieces in my home is the mismatch, eclectic look created by bringing one off pieces together. This is what inspired the different colour stories of the every nook packaging in fact! You can also see how I've used an empty Green Leaf + Bergamot candle jar as pot for a small plant :) The vibrant packaging can be used to add a pop of colour in your home long after you've enjoyed your candle.
I hope this has given you some ideas for creating a retro vibe in your home this Summer. I'll 100% be moving things around in Autumn, which I'd love to share with you too.
