Our top 5 ways scented candles can boost your self-care rituals

The nostalgia scent can bring to our homes is what every nook is all about.  Inspired by the comforting familiarity of old things, evoking memories, story-telling and creating meaningful spaces.

When we need life to slow down, feel connected to our environment and practice some self-care rituals, burn a scented candle that adds soul to your space.

Here are my top 5 ways scented candles can boost your self care vibes (in no particular order!)

Lighting a scented candle to create intention

Sometimes simply lighting a scented candle can improve your focus and intention. Lighting a candle says to yourself, I'm going to sit/lay here a while, this is my time. Whether this be when you finally get to sit down on the sofa at the end of day to relax, or run yourself a bath, lighting a candle sets the tone that you intend to enjoy this relaxation for more than just a fleeting moment. I know if I light a candle when I go for a bath I'll stay in there for longer as it feels like a pampering event vs a quick dip! The accompaniment of a scented candle also elevates your experience, sitting down to watch Netflix just became a bit more special as you also enjoy the warm glow and scent of your favourite scented candle.

Burn scents that suit your mood

The specific scent of course can really set the tone and maximise this time you have put aside for just you. Home fragrances with notes of lavender help create a calming space, perfect for the end of the day self-care rituals. Citrus notes are bright and energising, helping to boost our mood and refresh us and therefore ideal for morning routines. Spa like fragrance scents for example luxurious bergamot or sensual amber can make us feel pampered and elevate our mood at any time of day.

The comfort of your go to favourite scent

It is not always about the properties and association of a particular scent note that boosts our mood, but what the scent means to us. A scent that reminds us of comforting memories, a particular place or a person who is special to us. It may just be a scent we love and this simply gives us the best feels whenever we burn it as a treat to ourselves. Or as a partner to our self-care rituals, building a positive association between the scent and the knowledge its our time to relax and refresh.

Get mindful with a flickering flame

The gentle flickering of our scented candle flame is a calming accompaniment to a mindfulness practice as a self-care ritual. The simple act of stopping what we are doing and allowing ourselves to take in our surroundings, can in my experience, prove quite tricky with a busy mind and the constant distractions of modern life. Having something to focus on is useful in clearing our minds. The traditional, nostalgic vibes of a candle also helps me feel more grounded, perhaps its the old soul in me!

Wind things down with low lighting

As well as the calming flickering flame, the glow of a  scented candle also creates relaxing, natural mood lighting. Electric lights can be bright and over-stimulating, candlelight feels softer and nostalgic. Ideal to use when pampering in the bath, I must say I also particularly enjoy the more flattering light they offer! Enjoy also for creating a restful space for meditation or yoga, or when simply winding down at the end of the day.

Discover our Rosewood + Lavender collection as a top pick for a serene, self-care ritual fragrance collection.

Ahh, now I feel like I need to go for a nice relaxing bubble bath - with a scented candle of course! I'd love to hear why you use your candles in your self-care rituals :)
